Surround yourself with flowers in the Buchart Gardens

John

Updated: May 17, 2020

Mrs Buchart was an shrewd entrepreneur. She moved from the freezing blizzards of Ontario to quarry limestone on Vancouver Island in the early 1900s. When the limestone ran out she soon began plotting one of the world's most famous destination gardens and a national Historic Site of Canada.

There are five main 'feature' gardens (although the sunken garden is the most famous) spread over fifty five acres. Fifty gardeners to continually rotate floral displays throughout the year so each visit you make will be a unique experience. The entry prices aren't cheap so if flowers are your thang you might want to buy a membership.

Spring is undoubtedly the most popular time to visit but you can review the blog to find out which plants are flowering before you arrive. Reserving a lunch at the dining room is worth it if you have made the long journey from Vancouver. I recommend incorporating the gardens into a longer trip around Victoria and Vancouver Island.
