Oyster dome hike & beer week in Bellingham

Bellingham is an adorably friendly little student city just the other side of the USA border. You can easily travel down for a rainy day in March and experience some of the local charm.

There's a decidedly relaxed atmosphere which is a nice break from the density of Vancouver. To work up an appetite try the moderate twelve kilometre Oyster Dome hike with great views very close to downtown. This can be done as a trail-run and it dog friendly. If you don't feel like getting out of the car then take a leisurely tour down Chuckanut Drive towards Teddy Bear Cove for vistas across Bellingham Bay.

There seems to be more breweries than stores in Bellingham and the annual Beer Week in March is a good excuse to visit them! Aslan, Chukanut and Boundary Bay are all very different and some of my favourites.

If beer is not your thing then Camber has great coffee and brunch and Black Sheep does amazing tacos and cocktails.
