Otters, snakes and jellyfish at the Aquarium (vale)

John

NOTE: On 7th September 2020 the Aquarium shut its doors until a new business model can be implemented, we can't wait to return soon!

Long rainy Vancouver days are perfect for those creatures living in and around the water. If the Greater Vancouver Zoo is a little far for you (out in Langley) then the aquarium has a surprising array of fish, frogs, mammals, reptiles, birds and even animals.

It is conveniently located in the middle of Stanley Park and open seven days a week. The reason I love the aquarium is the sheer variety of creatures to see. It is very different to large commercial aquariums in Florida, Australia or South Africa... don't expect giant 'walk in' tanks or hundreds of deadly sharks.

Instead, B.C's offering highlights marine diversity from right across the globe. There are cute otters, playful rescued seals and a white-sided Pacific dolphin called Helen. I really enjoyed the local tanks which demonstrate fish and aquatic life found nearby. Once you've taken a selfie by the jellyfish you can then meander past the remainder of the thirty exhibits.

There are species from all across the globe including an impressive amazon exhibit with snakes, sloths and bird life. An excellent day out with the family. Not a cheap experience, but worth it.
