Italian meets American BBQ

John

'Say Mercy!' opened in January 2020 to some fanfare. It is a thoroughly recommended 'date night' restaurant with a confusingly brilliant fusion of Italian food with American BBQ.

The mind child of chef Sean Reeve, this relatively small venue has understated wallpaper and pressed ceilings (rare in Vancouver) conjuring a pleasant atmosphere. The pastas are top notch. I enjoyed the signature bbq bolognese with bucatini but on my next visit I would try something more unique. The Risotto was both impossibly light and rich at the same time with zingy lemon and Vancouver Island mushrooms.

We then ordered the Pork Hock which was a feast in itself. Filling the entire plate and matched with polenta and red cabbage slaw I couldn't fault it as the meat fell apart succulently. If you are hungry this is the dish to go for!
