You would normally think twice before uttering the words 'Canada' and 'good beaches' in the same sentence! Over the short summer period Vancouver's beaches a must-do activity on your gap year. They are excellent examples of shared public space activation and very accessible with logs to sit on.
The beaches are crawling with people trying to get a summer tan and often patrolled by lifeguards. Street drinking is not technically allowed and dogs must remains on leads. My personal favourites include third beach and Jericho beach, but you can find the complete lowdown on this great website or via the City of Vancouver. The sand is off-white, there isn't any surf and you should try to swim just after high tide when the water is deepest and clear.
Some ideas to consider:
Volleyball at Kistilano
Picnic at Spanish Banks
Paddle board at Jericho
Swim at Third Beach
Watch the sunset at English Bay
Swim in a 137 metre outdoor pool
Enjoy Canada's first seven kilometre secluded clothing optional beach Wreck Beach
