Grow Some Houseplants

Updated: Oct 25, 2021

Walking through Mount Pleasant you will notice most windowsills are adorned with drooping ivy, proud rubber plants and chic fiddle leaf figs. The high humidity in BC is excellent for propagating houseplants. There is a burgeoning market for leafy green foliage in Vancouver so you wont have any issues offloading plants when you leave... plus they will keep you occupied during any morose November rains.

You can find some bargains on Facebook marketplace, but if you are interested in some more local options here are a few top tips. Don't forget to buy a fashionable pot to show off your new best friend.

Jungle: boutique women owned and operated offering a terrarium and plant bar on Broadway.

Trendy Bucks: Main St store with a big selection

Figaro's Garden: East Van staple with design, horticulture and a sense of community

Vandula Farms: market and nursery

Frondly: a great online option with next-day delivery across the lower mainland for only five bucks! You can select your specific plant and prices are reasonable.

Home Depot: surprisingly good range and excellent prices for tropical plants at the end of summer.

Florists: Usually have a range of plants in stock. Great for pressies. Try Jam Florist on East Hastings for air plants.

Supermarkets & Canadian Tire: can be hit or miss, excellent for cheaper seasonal varieties to add colour to your apartment.
