Glamping by the Skookumchuck Narrows

These spectacular horizontal waterfalls are one of the Sunshine Coast's hidden gems. The Skookumchuck Narrows Provincial Park is an inlet that connects the Northern ocean currents to Sechelt.

Huge tidal variations carrying two billion litres of water through this narrow isthmus of land creates North America's fastest salt water rapids, standing waves and twenty metre whirlpools! You can observe this natural phenomenon a number of times a day but I recommend reviewing the tide charts and asking your accommodation for tips on the timing.

It is accessed by a very leisurely two hour walk through a beautiful coastal rainforest filled with sword ferns. You will see professional kayakers and surfers trying to traverse the standing waves and at low tide there are beautiful purple and orange see stars on the shoreline near the second lookout point.

It will take about two hours drive from the Langdale Ferry Terminal which is accessed via BC Ferries at Horseshoe Bay. There are a few accommodation options in the nearby sleepy village of Egmont. It is magical staying for a few nights as there are plenty of other sites nearby including excellent swimming and kayaking on Ruby Lake. You can also arrange boat tours to the Princess Louisa Inlet.

Glamping at the Back Eddy Resort is a unique and more affordable experience. Cute igloo tents are offered, you will wake up to panoramic views over the mountains. The local pub has friendly staff and good meals.
