'Eat local' is the motto of the Vancouver Farmers Markets and they certainly delivers on this promise.
There are markets dotted across the city open on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays across the entire year. You are bound to find somewhere close to where you live. It is refreshing to purchase fresh, local seasonal produce directly from farmers and purveyors. Stalls are deliberately varied with a selection of non-perishable goods and food such as cheeses, cider, seafood and baked goods.
Since COVID-19 sampling has been reduced and health and safety has clearly been well thought-through with unidirectional travel through stalls and restrictions on the number of shoppers at any time.
Caffeination is provided by numerous coffee carts and sometimes there is live music too! The markets are an excellent rainy-day activity . If it is absolutely bucketing down and you don't wish to hand-select your items you can order online now.
Pack your umbrella and calico bag and prepare for some wonderful educational conversations. This morning I learnt all about collards.. looking forward to cooking them with butter and pepper flakes this evening.
