Less than twenty minutes from downtown the Cypress Falls hike is an excellent spring trail for your nature fix. It takes roughly seventy minutes to complete and is around three kilometres return.
Entering via an unassuming car park from a residential West Vancouver street the trail is marked by small orange diamonds. If you aren't keen for heights, the bottom section is an easy walk down to a small wooden bridge with waterfall photo opportunities. Hundreds of ferns emerging after the winter snow makes for a magical setting.
I do not recommend continuing further on this hike for those with dogs or children as it can be quite dangerous. The canyon has jagged fourty metre sheer edges which can be slippery when muddy. There are no clear barricades, at times the hike will take you metres from the edge!
Continuing on the left hand side of the river walking upstream you will climb right up to the photo lookout at the top of the falls. From here you can walk to the road to cross over the river bridge and then return down the other side. All trails has a decent map of this path. The top section of the hike is on private land and a liability exclusion sign is present.
