Canada Day in Ottawa

John

Updated: May 16, 2020

If you are in Canada for a short time there is no better place to spend the national holiday than in the nation's capital.

Ottawa isn't known for its multifarious neighbourhoods, but on Canada Day the local population opens its hearts to all who call this wonderful country home. Check the official event timings carefully. Strict security measures mean you will need to allow at least fourty five minutes to access the Parliament house address where the Prime Minister delivers an annual address.

The afternoon can be spent wandering around Major's Hill Park where there are a gaggle of free activities. Walk over the Alexandra Bridge to Quebec and spend some time in the Canadian Museum of History which offers free entry on Canada Day.

Grab some low-key poutine for dinner or head to the ByWard Market area for more fancy options and then watch the night sky explode with fireworks

Don't forget to wear red and white!
