Highly coveted mid-morning options are everywhere in Vancouver. People queue for hours on the sidewalks of Yaletown and Gastown for waffles, hash browns and smashed avocado. There are a feast of choices but my top picks represent the best 'time-value' places where you shouldn't need to wait for more than fifteen minutes to be seated.
If you read other blogs the commonly quoted 'top brunch' in Vancouver is Jam Cafe. Yep this place has wonderful bacon caesars, fluffy pancakes and mac and cheese. I suggest trying their Kitsilano location as it will have a shorter wait... but still around sixty minutes!
Blvd Bistro [North Vancouver]: My top brunch spot in the whole of Vancouver. Incredibly community-oriented and has limited seating with amazing daily cocktail options. The pulled pork bourbon sauced buttermilk pancakes with Chinese gooseberries are mind blowing.
Catch 122 [Gastown]: Canadian style brunch (potato with everything) with decent service and nice smashed avocado. Comes recommended if you need to accommodate a large group.
Chambar/Medina [Gastown/Yaletown]: Not many people know Chambar is a owned by the same people as the popular Richards Street waffle house Medina... you can get the same deliciously crispy waffles without the wait! Chambar also does fantastic french themed brunches and eggs are perfectly cooked. You don't need to book if you arrive in the first two hours of opening. You will be finished and on your way home before the punters next door at Jam Cafe are seated.
Nuba [Mount Pleasant/Kitsilano]: Healthy, fresh Lebanese food with amazing Turkish coffee. Some of the best tasting Mezze food with excellent vegetarian options. The falafel is perfectly crunchy and paired with slices of avocado wrapped in pitta with hummus. There are four locations across the city.
OEB Breakfast Co [Yaletown]: Recently arrived in Vancouver from Calgary you can get all the unpretentious classics, their wait list system really facilitates efficiency which is a big bonus.
Yolks are serious about eggs! With locations on West Broadway and in East Van this team prides itself on poaching perfection.. they aren't wrong. Simple clean menu and I love the fresh juices.
