How to work as a heavy duty/ diesel mechanic in British Columbia Canada
To become recognised in BC as a Heavy Duty/Diesel Mechanic, you can apply to the Industry training Association for BC (ITA).
If you have previous or extensive experience in the trade, you can apply to challenge the certification. You can apply online and will need to complete all the required paperwork, including employment history and experience, and will require your employers to complete documentation to confirm this. The fee is $120 CAD. If your documentation is approved, they will refer you to sit the Interprovincial Red Seal Exam. This exam is required by employers if you wish to work as a heavy duty mechanic, especially in the Mining sector.
You can sit the Red Seal Exam in most towns and cities within BC. The cost of this exam varies by province. in the province you apply will depend on the cost of the exam. Information about the red seal can be found here.
Once you have passed your Red Seal and received your certificate, your trade will be recognised in BC.
